I am so excited and ready to create! WHY? Because yesterday I cleaned my creative space!
Finally finished at 2AM. A daunting 15 hour job! Funny it was so difficult to get started! I usually clean my studio somewhat a least a few times a week -- sometimes nightly reorganizing it and almost always about once every two weeks or so -- but with all my classes lately I got behind and many times I was tired and used it as an excuse to not put things back where they belong and pulled things out with out cleaning up, etc.
Let's just say, It was the worst it had been in quite a while!
As a matter of fact, I have been talking to myself about cleaning it for a week and used every good excuse I could think up to get out of it.
It was so disorganized it Seemed like an overwhelming task that I called asked my BFF Cherril to come over for moral support, she came over and we started on it! Here is a BEFORE picture. I made it small so you don't look too close! haha.
After a while, I could not stop cleaning and organizing, even though Cherril had long gone. It was actually fun! I could not believe it... this daunting task ended up being fun! Not sure when the change occurred, but I would make a bet it was when I was over half-way point and knew it was not as difficult as I thought that I was able finally to enjoy the process.
I always come to a new and heightened appreciation of what creative supplies I have when I come in contact and touch to organize them! Everytime I sort my fabrics I fall in love once more! I am sure you can relate Starr and Cherril, two BFFS that love fabric as much as I do.
Once the under-construction/remodel was finished, I sat down in my new little reading nook I added. and thought... I so love this place! Why? ...and what makes me love it so? Ahhh... to look around and see all my most favorite things I own in one organized spot felt so good.... but really what makes it so special to me?

1.) I HAVE A SPECIAL COZY NOOK WITH GOOD LIGHT: First time I made a place to sit and be comfy ( for both my guests and myself), with the latest or my favorite arty books to glance through, ipad handy and my sketch book and pencil. I spend most my entire day standing while I create, wheather in my studio or teaching as many of you that take my classes know, I never sit down. SO excited to have this little spot that says to me "It's ok, Jill, you can sit down and relax a minute." Ahhhh..small simplw pleasures are meaning so much more to me.
2.) NATURAL LIGHT!: I think you could rightly so call me a "light snob", But I am in good company. Van Gogh was a light snob too, so much that he moved when it became winter and dark and dreary. Not to compare myself to Van Gogh haha, but I love a lot of light, it is so im[portant to me and one reason I chose my place I am in now was do to light and the openness and hign ceilings.! I do have creative moments after dark, but usually only if I have begun the project earlier in the day. I usually do not have my best initiative creative mojo at night! I love the early morning! Sometimes even just right before it gets light!
3.) ORGANIZED SHELVES: Yes, the core of the studio! Organized shelves and many are labeled. When I have moved, I put my studio shelves in a box and mark it "Row 1, shelf 1; Row 1 Shelf: So my studio has been the same for many years - I know immediately where to go for my favorite supplies. This time I realized I decided to re-organize to my "mixed media groove" or love of all fine art materials, I chose to put the things I am using most on the first few rows of shelving, as well as on a cart next to the tables.
4.) HOW THEY ARE ORGANIZED MAKES A DIFFERENCE: I am really into my Golden and Liqutex products. Like Golden's gesso, modeling paste, and mediums. Also love my Liqiuitex Spray Paints.
All my acrylic paints and stencils are on the other side close to my table~~~~ LOVIN my arty supplies~they keep me happy~
5.) STUDIO BATHROOM: This is the first studio where I have had a super cute Studio bathroom and sink within a few feet- very nice extra and use it constantly! So do my kitties, for lounging.
6.) THE "REAL-DEAL" TOOL BOX FOR TOOLS: About three years ago Rick got me an awesome stacked Craftsman Toolbox on wheels to keep all the tools in and I so love it! You can't see in the pic but each drawer is labeled and I have a great place just for TOOLS, Dremel Tool, jewelry pliers, paper cutters, wires, wire brushes, small box of nails, pictures hangers, etc, rulers, Glue guns and sticks, extension cords, heat guns, staplers, Crop-a-dils, Drill, Sander and basic tools such as hammer, screw drivers, pliers,etc.. This TOOLBOX has been a great addition to the studio organization.
Lucy Lu says "There's no place like home~ -- she loves the studio!
Thanks for coming on my Studio Tour~ hope to see you here soon!
